A New Heart to Witness

Scripture: Acts 1:6-11

The Power to Witness Comes from the Holy Spirit

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses. . .” (v8)

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:4)

“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit said to them . . . ‘And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.’ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were ordinary men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:8, 12-13)

The Task of Witnessing Falls on Every Believer

“. . . you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (v8)

“So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, ‘Come see a man who told me all I ever did. Can this be the Christ?’ Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony.” (John 4:28-29, 39)

The Time to Witness is Limited

“It is not for you to know times and seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. . . Why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (v7,  11)

“So, Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.”  (Acts 8:30-35)
