John 16:16-22

We can have joy in the darkness because the darkness is temporary

“A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” (v16)

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing us an eternal glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. . .” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

We can have joy in the darkness because eternal joy is coming

“You have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.” (v22)

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”  (Romans 8:18)
