The Courage to Honor Marriage
Hebrews 13:4
1. Let Marriage Be Held in Honor Among our Children (Matthew 19:5-6)
by teaching them that marriage was not intended to be…
… temporary
“What God has joined together, let man not separate”
… for more than two people
“the two shall become on flesh”
… a homosexual union
“a man shall… hold fast to his wife”
“(God) made… a woman and brought her to the man” (Genesis 2:22)
2. Let Marriage Be Held in Honor Among the Unmarried (1 Corinthians 7:2-9)
by respecting God’s rules for marriage
“to the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am, but if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion” (1 Corinthians 7:8-9)
by reserving sex for the marriage relationship only
“Flee from sexual immorality… for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)
“the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed” (Genesis 2:25)
“And God saw everything that he has made, and behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31)
3. Let Marriage Be Held in Honor Among the Married (Ephesians 5:33)
by remaining faithful to your spouse
“let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous” (Hebrews 13:4)
by loving your wife
“let each one of you love his wife as himself” (Ephesians 5:33a)
by respecting your husband
“let the wife see that she respects her husband” (Ephesians 5:33b)
“And God blessed them. And God said to them ‘Be fruitful and multiply…'” (Genesis 1:28)
“The Lord is my helper, I will not fear…” Hebrews 13:6
