The Day of the Lord Is Near

Scripture: Isaiah 13:1–14:2

God will Judge Nations and People by His Sovereignty

“They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, the LORD and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land. Wail for the day of the LORD is near” (Isaiah 13:5-6)

“Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken; wail for her! . . . Forsake her, and let us go each to his own country, for her judgment has reached up to heaven.” (Jeremiah 51:8-9)

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons.” (Revelation 18:1)

God will Destroy Nations and People by His Power

“Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it.”  (Isaiah 13:9)

“The LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, for that is the vengeance of the LORD.”  (Jeremiah 51:11)

“So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will be found no more.”
(Revelation 18:21)

God will Save Nations and People by His Compassion

“For the LORD will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land.”  (Isaiah 14:1)

“And after I have plucked (Israel) up I will again have compassion on them, and I will bring them again each to his heritage and each to his land.”  (Jeremiah 12:15)

“After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out, ‘Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for his judgments are true and just.’”
(Revelation 19:1-2)
