What Not to Say!

What Not to Say!
May 6, 2018

 “Rejoice with those who rejoice,
weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15)

 Eliphaz (Job 5:17-27)

 Speaking in Half Truths

“Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty.”  (Job 5:17)

“Remember: who that was innocent ever perished? Or where were the upright cut off?”  (Job 4:7)

Caring more about solving the problem
Than being there for our friend

Think twice before saying things like:
“God is using this time to bring you closer to Him”
“God is making you stronger”
“God works all things together for good”

Bildad (Job 8:3-7)

 Speaking with Heartless Remarks

“Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert the right? If your children have sinned against him, he has delivered them into the hand of their transgression.”  (Job 8:3-4)

Caring more about finding someone to blame
Than being there for our friend

Think twice before saying things like:
“You have brought this suffering on yourself”
“God disciplines those who he loves”
“You reap what you sow”

Zophar (Job 11:2-6)

 Speaking with Prideful Responses

“Should a multitude of words go unanswered, and a man full of talk be judged right? Should your babble silence men, and when you mock, shall no one shame you?” (Job 11:2-3)

 Caring more being right
Than being there for our friend

Think twice before saying things like:
“I know what you are going through”
“Cheer up”
“It could be worse”
