Scripture: John 14:15-31

We Obey Because We Love Jesus

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (v15)

“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.” (1 John 2:3)

“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments.” (1 John 5:2-3)

We Obey Because We Have the Help of the Holy Spirit

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth.” (v16-17)

“It is for your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.” (John 16:7-8)

We Obey Because We are Loved by the Father

“He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” (v21)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him.” (1 John 3:1-2)
