God’s Greatest Gift of Grace: Reconciliation

Scripture: Genesis 33

Grace Through a Broken Relationship

“Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. . . (Jacob) went on before them, bowing himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.” (v1-3)

“Joseph said to his brothers, ‘Come near to me, please. . . .I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.’” (Genesis 45:4)

“I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’” (Luke 15:18-19)

Grace Through a Restored Relationship

“Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.” (v4)

“Then (Joseph) fell upon his brother Benjamin’s neck and wept, and Benjamin wept upon his neck. And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them.” (Genesis 45:14-15)

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20)

Grace Through an Unearned Relationship

“Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.” (v15)

“Joseph gave them wagons . . . and gave them provisions for the journey. To each and all of them he gave a change of clothes . . .” (Genesis 45:21-22)

“The Father said. . . ‘bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate.”
(Luke 15:22-23)
