Scripture: Galatians 1:1-5

1.We no longer need to be slaves to sin

“. . . the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins . . .” (1:3-4)

             We were slaves

“. . . we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world.” (4:3)

            We have been set free

“So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God” (4:7)

            Which do we look like?

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. . .” (5:13)

2. We no longer need to be slaves to Legalism

“. . . not from men, nor through man, but through Jesus Christ. . .” (1:1)

  We were slaves

“Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed.”  (3:23)

         We have been set free

“Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, bcause by works of the law no one will be justified” (2:16)

          Which do we look like?

“Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more?” (4:8-9)

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (5:1)
