Hebrews 3:1-6

Jesus is God’s Representative

“Consider Jesus, the apostle” (v1)

Moses said, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11)

Jesus said, “Everything written about he in the Law of Moses and the Prophets must be fulfilled.”  (Luke 24:44)

Moses said about Jesus, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers- it is to him you shall listen.” (Deuteronomy 18:15)

Jesus is Our Representative

“Consider Jesus, . . . the high priest of our confession” (v1)

God said to Moses, “If you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine, and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”  (Exodus 19:5)

Jesus said, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” (Luke 22:20)

“But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.”  (Hebrews 9:11)

Jesus is the Builder of the Church

“(Jesus) was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. “ (v3)

Jesus said, “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)

Jesus is the Son of God

“Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son.”  (v5-6)

God said about Moses, “Hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the LORD make myself known to him in a vision; I speak with him in a dream. Not so with my servant Moses, he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak mouth to mouth.” (Numbers 12:5-8)

God said about Jesus, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)

“We are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope” (v6)

Jesus is greater than our problems, our finances and our time.
