Isaiah 40:21-31

“I saw the Lord, sitting on the throne, high and lifted up” (Isaiah 6:1)

 Is God King?

He is older than creation

“Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?” (v21)

Before the mountains were brought forth or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:2)

He is separate from creation

“It is he who sits above the circle of the earth . . .”(v22)

“The Lord, who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man.” (Acts 17:24)

He is greater than creation

“. . .who stretches out the heavens like a curtain. . .” (v22)

“Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted, his majesty is above the earth and heaven.” (Psalm 148:13)

Is God All-Powerful?

 He created all things

“Lift up your eyes on high and see, who created these?” (v26)

“You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve them;  and the host of heaven worships you.” (Nehemiah 9:6)

He knows all things

His understanding is unsearchable.” (v28)

“God determines the number of stars, he gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power, his understanding is beyond measure.” (Psalm 147:4-5)

He does not get tired

“The Lord is the everlasting God. The creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary. . .” (v28)

Is God on Our Side?

He empowers us

“He gives power to the faint. . .”  (v29)

“Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed, day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)

He enables us

“they shall mount up on wings like eagles . . .” (v31)

“The Sovereign Lord is my strength. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer. He enables me to go on the heights.” (Habakkuk 3:19)
