Job 31

The Blameless Seek Purity  (Job 31:1-12)

“I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?” (Job 31:1)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28)

What in my life needs to be cleaned up?

The Blameless Serve Humbly  (Job 31:13-23)

“If I have rejected the cause of my manservant or my maidservant, when they brought a complaint against me, what then shall I do when God rises up? When he makes an inquiry, what shall I answer him? Did not he who made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?” (Job 31:13)

“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”  (Matthew 6:3-4)

  How Can I Serve Better?

The Blameless Look Heavenly  (Job 31:24-28)

“If I have made gold my trust or called fine gold my confidence, if I have rejoiced because my wealth was abundant or because my hand had found much. . . this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges, for I would have been false to God above.”  (Job 31:24-25,28)

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven . . . for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

 How Can I Give Better?

The Blameless Love Generously  (Job 31:29-40)

“If I have rejoiced at the ruin of him who hated me, or exulted when evil overtook him (I have not let my mouth sin by asking for his life with a curse).” (Job 31:29)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:43-45)
