Galatians 3:6-9
The God of . . .then (v6,8)
The Promise of God
“And (God) brought (Abraham) outside and said, ‘Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be’.” (Genesis 15:5)
Promises are only as good as the one promising them.
When God promised, it was a guarantee!!
+ the Faith of Man
“Abraham believed God . . .”(v6a)
Faith is only as good as the object of it.
Faith in the all-powerful God was the way to go!!
= the Salvation
“. . . and it was counted to him as righteousness” (v6b)
“The promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.” (Romans 4:13)
“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, ‘In you shall all the nations be blessed’.” (Galatians 3:8) *see Genesis 12:3
Salvation only came in one way
God saved by grace through faith!!
“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” (Matthew 1:1)
“Today, salvation has come to his house, since he also is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:9)
The God of . . .now (v7,9)
The Promise of God
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son ..” (John 3:16)
God promised a Savior to all nations
When God promises, it is a guarantee!!
+ the Faith of Man
“. . . that whoever believes in Him . . .” (John 3:16)
“Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.” (Galatians 3:7)
“Those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.” (Galatians 3:9)
The God of now is the same as the God of then.
Faith in the unchanging God is the way to go!!
= the Salvation
“shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Salvation can never be earned
God always saves by grace through faith!!
“Jesus said to them, . . . before Abraham was, I am”. (John 8:58)
