Wait with Expectation

Scripture: Luke 1:5-25

God is Working Even When We Don’t See it

“. . . was a priest named Zechariah . . .  And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandment and statutes of the Lord. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.” (v 5-7)

“Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise” (Luke 3:11)

God is Working Even in the Mundane

“(Zechariah) was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. . . .And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense” (v8-12)

“Collect no more than you are authorized to do. . . Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.” (Luke 3:12-14)

God is Working in Unexpected Ways

“But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great before the Lord.” (v13-17)

“As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ.” (Luke 3:15)

God is Working Even When We Doubt

“Zechariah said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.” And the angel answered him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.” (v18-25)

“I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier that I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Luke 3:16)
