“For whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” (v7)

   Sinful Actions Grow Sinful Consequences

         -They deceive us

“Do not be deceived” (v7)

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)

“Put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:21-22)

-They mock God

“God is not mocked.” (v7)

-They produce corrupt character

“For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption.” (v8)

“Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity.” (Proverbs 22:8)

  Spiritual Actions Grow Spiritual Rewards

  -They cultivate eternal rewards

“. . .the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” (v8)

“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.” (Matthew 5:11-12)

-They build up the body of Christ

so then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (v10)

“(Jesus) gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Ephesians 4:11-12) -NIV

  -They harvest lost sinners

“. . . lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.” (John 4:35-36)

“Sow a thought and you reap an act; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. . . He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:6,10)
