Scripture: Psalm 22

The Suffering Savior was Forsaken by God (v1-2)

“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli lema sabachthani” That is “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me” (Matthew 22:46)

“For our sake, (God) made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

The Suffering Savior was Rejected by Men (v6-7, 12-18)

“He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” (Isaiah 53:3)

“They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and twisted together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. . .  And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads” (Matthew 27:28-31, 39)

The Resurrected King Inspires the Worship of the Church (v22-26)

“I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”
(Hebrews 2:12)

The Resurrected King Inspires the Witness of the Church (v27-31)

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations. . .” (Matthew 28:19)

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
