Questions of Jesus

Why Did You Doubt?

Matthew 14:22-33

Pray Like Jesus

Jesus prayed alone

“After he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.” (v23)

Jesus prayed together with other believers in God

“ He took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.” (v28)

Walk Like Jesus

“When the disciples saw him walking on the sea . . .” (v26)

“Peter answered him, ‘Lord if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.’ He said, ‘Come.’ So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.” (v28-29)

“Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” 1 John 2:6

Look at Jesus

“But when (Peter) saw the wind, he was afraid and beginning to sink . . .” (v30)

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Cry Out to Jesus

“(Peter) cried out, ‘Lord save me.’ Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him saying to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’ (v30-31)

“The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” (Psalm 34:15,17)

Worship Jesus

“And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God.’” (v32-33)

“. . . Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:5-11)
