You Suffer . . . Differently

2 Corinthians 1:5-11

You Share in Jesus’ Sufferings

“For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings” (v5)

“For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death.” (v8-9)

“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify you name.” (John 12:27)

You Share in Jesus’ Comfort

“so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.” (v5-7)

“Jesus answered them, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.’” (John 12:23-24)

You Share in Jesus’ Hope

“But to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.” (v9-10)

“And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
(John 12:32)
