Scripture: Matthew 18:21-35
Jesus Forgave a Great Debt
— We owed a great debt
- “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins” Ephesians 2:1
- “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23
- “For the wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23a
— God’s forgiveness came at a great price
We Forgive Because We Have Been Forgiven
— We have been forgiven an even greater debt than we could ever forgive.
- “Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive.” Colossians 3:13
— Our forgiveness comes with a cost
Application: Like Jesus we forgive.
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us.” Ephesians 4:32-5:2a
