A reason to worship

Discussion Questions

1. What is it about Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross that makes you want to worship him today?

2. What words would you use to describe how you feel when you remember that Jesus is presently advocating on your behalf in heaven? What does it make you want to do in response?

3. What parts of your life, that you might otherwise be overwhelmed with, are you able to have peace and joy because Jesus (your Savior) offers you an eternal inheritance?

Sermon Outline

Hebrews 9:23-28

He has Appeared as Our Sacrifice

“(Christ didn’t enter the holy places) to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” (v25-26)

You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.” (1 John 3:5)

Look back to the time of Jesus and consider his sacrifice.   What is your response?

He is Appearing as Our Advocate

“Christ has entered not into the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.” (v24)

“Christ Jesus is the one who died, more than that, who was raised – who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” (Romans 8:34)

“If anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (1 John 2:1)

Turn your attention toward heaven and consider how he stands on your behalf. What is your response?

He will Appear as Our Savior

“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ having been offered to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” (v27-28)

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:11-13)

Think about the hope you have of a certain future with God in heaven because Jesus is your Savior. What is your response?
