Is Your Faith Real?

sermon outline

Scripture: Hebrews 10:32-39

You Have Been Enlightened with the Truth

“But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened . . .” (v32a)

“the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you.” (Ephesians 1:17-19)

More than knowledge . . . an awakening

You Have Struggled for Your Faith

“after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction . . . joyfully accepting the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.” (v32b-34)

“Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” (2 Timothy 3:12)

“As for what was sown on the rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation and persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.” (Matthew 13:20-21)

More than persecution . . . perseverance

You Have Compassion for the Lost and Hurting

“sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on those in prison” (v33b-34)

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-6)

More than sympathy . . . action

You Have Conviction for the Will of God

“Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised” (v35-36)

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)

More than a decision . . . dedication
