Judas Iscariot: Like Jesus We Are Faithful

Scripture: Matthew 26:17-75

We All Have Betrayed Jesus with Our Actions

And as they were eating, he said, “truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” (v21)

“While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, ‘The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.’” (v47-48)

“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

We All Have Denied Jesus with Our Words

“Peter answered him, ‘Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.’” (v33-34)

“Then (Peter) began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, ‘I do not know the man.’ And immediately the rooster crowed.” (v74)

“whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:33)

We All Have Been Unfaithful to Jesus with Complacency

“And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour?” (v40)

“Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. . . so therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:27-33)

“Not as I will, but as you will” (v39)
