A Heart for God

Long Live the King!

1 Samuel 10:17-27

God Saves

“Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all the kingdoms that were oppressing you.’” (v18)

A king cannot save you. Only God can do that.

“The king is not saved by his great army . . . Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death.” (Psalm 33:16-19)

When we place our hope on earthly things, we reject God.

“But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your calamities and your distresses.” (v19)

God Chooses

“Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen?” (v24)

You didn’t choose God. God chose You.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world.” (Ephesians 1:3-4)

When we place our hope on earthly things, we hide from God.

“Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage.” (v22)

God Changes Hearts

“. . . with him went men of valor whose hearts God had touched” (v26)

You are not worthy of God, but God chose you anyway.

“God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.” (1 Corinthians 1:27)

When we place our hope on earthly things, we despise God’s plan.

“But some worthless fellows said, “How can this man save us?” And they despised him and brought him no present.” (v27)
