Scripture: Matthew 2:13-15 & Galatians 3:23-29

Jesus is the True Israel

He came up out of Egypt

“This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, ‘Out of Egypt I called my son.’” Matthew 2:15   (Hosea 11:1)

He passed through the  waters

“And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him,  and behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’” 
Matthew 3:16-17   (Isaiah 43:1-3)

He was tested in the  wilderness

“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.”   Matthew 4:1 (Deuteronomy 8:2)

He is the Chosen One of God

“And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!’”   Luke 9:35  (Deuteronomy 7:6)

Followers of Jesus are the True Israel

We were slaves

“Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed.”  Galatians 3:23  (Exodus 2:23)

We have been set free

“So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith, But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.” Galatians 3:24-25  (Exodus 2:24)

We have become the chosen people of God

“for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.”
