Scripture: Matthew 3:13-17 & Romans 8:9-17

A child of God has the Spirit of God

“And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up form the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased’.” (Matthew 3:16-17)

“You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body id dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” (Romans 8:9-10)

A child of God is led by the Spirit of God

“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness . . .” (Matthew 4:1)

“So then, brothers, we are debtors not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” (Romans 8:12-14)

A child of God is an heir of a spiritual inheritance

“In these last days (God) has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things . . . After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.” (Hebrews 1:2-4)

“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs –heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” (Romans 8:16-17)

“He who has prepared us for this very things is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.”
(2 Corinthians 5:5)
